Frequently Asked Questions
What styles of coat can be made?
From classic tailored coats to relaxed, enveloping shapes — personalised in length, collar, pockets and finish, and designed around what you will wear beneath.
What cloths do you offer?
Fine wools, cashmere, tweed and characterful cloths chosen at the studio — the cloth decides much of a coat's personality, so we take time over it.
How do you handle layering?
We consider what the coat needs to sit over — knitwear, tailoring, dresses — and cut the body and sleeves so everything works together through the season.
How long will a made to measure coat last?
Made well and cared for, many years — a coat is one of the most worn garments you can commission, which makes it one of the most rewarding.
What details can I personalise?
Length, collar, closure, pockets, lining and finishing — each chosen with your consultant so the coat is unmistakably yours.
When should I commission a coat for winter?
Before the season, ideally — commissioning in late summer or early autumn gives the making and fittings comfortable room.
Do I need an appointment?
Yes — consultations and fittings are by appointment at our Shoreditch studio, 25a Pitfield Street, London N1 6HB, so we can give you our full attention. Call 020 7250 3569 to arrange a time.
What should I bring to my consultation?
Only yourself, if you like. Reference photographs, a garment that fits well or fabric ideas are all helpful, but plenty of clients arrive with no fixed idea at all — the consultation is designed to find the right direction together.
How many fittings will I need?
Most garments are refined through two to three fittings. At each one we assess balance, comfort and movement, and you will see the piece take shape around you.
How long will my commission take?
It depends on the garment, the cloth and the fittings involved, so we will give you an honest timeline at your consultation. If you are dressing for a fixed date, tell us when you enquire and we will plan around it.
